Document Duty Rate Changes to Sliding Scale Model

3rd January 2017

Guernsey Document Duty Reform Sliding Pay Scale

The States 2017 budget introduced a graduated scale of Document Duty, formerly charged at a flat rate of 3%.

Higher priced house purchases increase incrementally, whereas those below £800,000 will see a reduction in Document Duty, also on a sliding scale basis. Purchasers of average priced houses, currently calculated by the States at £412,792, will see a reduction of approximately £2,000.

The changes are fully explained by Advocate Jason Morgan, Partner and Head of Property at Carey Olsen, together with useful at-a-glance tables, in Cooper Brouard’s new issue of Guernsey Property, the island’s longest established and foremost property publication.
